Questions and answers between users
Q: What are the meaning of the different yarn counts?
A: The yarn count indicates the sise of the yarn. It is a ratio between the fix weight and the variable lenght of the yarn. The thinner the yarn is the higher its count number is high. There are 3 main tymes of counts: tex, denier (DS), Nm (metrical number).
- Tex is the weight in gram for 1000 meters of yarns (tex is 1mg/m, dtex is 0,1 mg/m, etc)
- Denier (US and UK system) is the wight in gram for 9000 metes of yarn
- Nm (French system) gives the number of meter per gram of yarn. Ex Nm 50 = 50 meters of yarn will weight 1 gram
THere are few others like Ne(I) and Ne(w) that are used specifically for hank.
