More detailsYou can find used Looms (air jet) on Wotol
Air jet weaving is one of the technology for weaving with rapier weaving, water jet weaving, projectile weaving. There are still few weaving companies using older methods like shuttle looms weaving and even hand weaving.
The air-jet loom was invented in Czechoslovakia in the 70s.
An air-jet loom uses a jet of air to blow the weft yarn through the warp shed. This technology enables very high speed because the yarn us transfered through the weft with the air jet instead of by mechanical means with other technologies. Air jet weaving looms can work at more than 1000 rpm which is double the speed of a rapier loom of the same width.
Air jet looms can produce from the simpliest fabric in taffeta to the most complicated with jacquard. Most spead machines are in cam or dobby.
This technology is well apreciated by technical fabric weaving companies because it also enables very consistent quality. It is also well spread for mass production for clothing thanks to its high productivity. Production with air jet looms is not as versatile as other weaving technologies and changing the quality of the product requires a lot of adjustments before production but once started the machine will produce very efficiently. This technology requires compressors to produce compressed air.
Main air jet looms producers are Picanol (Belgium), Toyota (Japan), Tsudakoma (Japan), Dornier (germany), Itema (Italy). Each manufacturer will have some stronge points than their competitors depending on the type of yarn used: cotton, synthetic, fiber glass, carbon, etc...
FAQ corner - questions and answers from members
What is the maximum speed of an air jet loom?
Most modern air jet looms can run at more than 1000 rpm. During some exhibitions we have seen airjet looms running at more than 1300 rpm. But aijet looms manufacturers will not commit on any speed becaude it depends on many factors such as the width of the machine obvioulsly, the qualty of the yars used, the knowhow of the producers, etc. Bit one thing for sure is that airjet loom technology is the one that enables the highest weaving speed.
Why air jet looms need more power than rapier looms?
The weft is blows through the loom by compressed air on an airjet loom. The production of this compressed air requires a lot of energy. We don't have comparison figures about the energy per pick required for air jet loom vs rapier loom. We will try to find some benchmark.
Why air jet looms' spare part consuption is less than other technologies?
There are less mechanical parts because on rapier looms you will need to replace the tapes and the grippers. Since you doin't have these mechanical parts on an air jet loom you just need to change the secondary air jet nozzle in a much lower frequency.
