King KI-209A GPS / VOR / LOC / Glideslope Indicator

The KI-209A is similar to King's standard KI-209 VOR/LOC/Glideslope Indicator, but with an important twist. The KI-209A can also be used with a GPS. Every VOR/LOC system needs to have a VOR/LOC converter between the NAV and the Indicator. While needed for VOR/LOC use, if this converter is internal to the Indicator, that Indicator cannot be used with a GPS. The KI-209A is special because it contains a relay that can switch the VOR/LOC converter out of the signal path. With the converter out of the way in GPS Mode, the KI-209A may be used with GPS guidance. The KI-209A, together with an Annunciator Control Unit (ACU), can be used to meet the FAA requirements for an IFR GPS installation. The KI-209A uses pendulum meter movements. Due to the extra capability offered by the KI-209A, it uses a different connector than the KI-208 and KI-209. The King KI-209A's features include:

The King KI-209A may be used with the following equipment:

GPS (except for KLN-90A / KLN-90B, due to resolver incompatibility)
KX-170B NAV/COMM
KX-175B NAV/COMM
KX-155 NAV/COMM 14V (with Glideslope)
KX-155 NAV/COMM 28V (with Glideslope)
KX-155A NAV/COMM (with Glideslope)
KN-53 NAV receiver (with Glideslope)

This indicator does not contain a Glideslope Receiver, so it needs that information from another source. If you have a KX-170 series or KX-175 series NAV/COMM, then the KN-75 remote mount Glideslope Receiver is the most common solution. If you have a KX-155 or KN-53 without Glideslope, you may be able to trade your radio for one that does contain a Glideslope Receiver.
