Egan Extrusion coating line
AMERICA North (USA-Canada-Mexico)
Egan extrusion laminator
General line description.
First commissioned as a 48” wide line in 1978
Second commissioning was as a 56” wide line in 1991, all rollers
and coaters were widened to a 58” width.
The line layout is as follows from front to back
2 spindle primary unwind with web-guide and
a 3 electrode 7 kw bare roll treater
1 prime coat direct gravure coater station with
two 14 ft gas fired floatation dyers
1 offset pivot guide right before the lam station
1 lamination station with chill drum, lam roller and
full lam back up roller with over coat trim station with
trim chopper just below.
2 spindle Aux unwind with web-guide and
a 2 electrode 5 kw bare roll treater
1 Ohmart traversing beta gauge for
profile monitoring and control.
1 Post coat offset pivot guide right before the second coater.
1 Post coat direct gravure coater station with
one14 ft gas fired floatation oven.
1 post coat chill roll section with two 12’ diameter chill rollers.
1 nipped three roll pull station for tension control.
2 spindle winder.
Main lam drum is 24” in diameter and was widened to 62” and
changed to a spiral flow cooling design with a matte finish for
over coat release. ( there is one spare chill drum with the line)
The current Extrusion die width was increased to 64” wide with
32 heated die bolts 2” on center for profile adjustment.
Die is an Egan 36 series coat hanger die with one rigid and
one flexible lip.
Extruder has 5 heated barrel zones, adapter and
connecting pipe and die has 7 heated die zones
All controls our programmed through a
Die is gapped at 525F to .0030”
Extruder is a 250 HP 4.5 dia screw with a
23 to1 compression ration with dual mixing zones with a
pineapple screw end for color mixing.
Current max speed is 200 RPM.
(we have two spare screws with the line.
Screw is designed to push LDPE with a M. I. of
6.9 at a rate of 1,200 lbs per hour
Current max line speed is 800 fpm.
Primary unwind has two spindles with 3” and 6” shafts and
are a max 40” in diameter and are speed matched for
splicing only and switch back to mechanical tension regulation
via a typical dancer roll assembly after splicing.
Secondary /Aux winder has two spindles with 3” and
6” shafts and are a max 30” in diameter and
only run and splice in manual brake tension regulation.
Primary winder has two max 40” diameter spindles with
3” and 6” shafts that splice automatically with a splice knife.
Tension is controlled via dancer roll assembly with a
mechanical ratio detector.
Additional aux equipment
3 station Macguire weight control mix station (only 3 years old)
3 vacuum loaders
3 resin box tilt tables
