Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR) is a digital polymerase chain reaction method based
water-oil emulsion droplet technology. ddPCR uses a combination of microfluidics
and proprietary surfactant chemistries to divide each sample into water-in-oil droplets.
The technology uses reagents and workflows similar to those used
for most standard TaqMan probe-based assays, and provides absolute quantification
of nucleic acid target sequences by counting nucleic acid molecules encapsulated in discrete,
volumetrically defined water-in-oil droplet partitions.
